چکیده

For time-invariant degradation models and stationary signals and noise, the classical Fourier domain Wiener filter, which can be implemented in O(N logN) time, gives the minimum mean-square-error estimate of the original undistorted signal. For time-varying degradations and nonstationary processes, however, the optimal linear estimate requires O(N2) time for implementation. We consider filtering in fractional Fourier domains, which enables significant reduction of the error compared with ordinary Fourier domain filtering for certain types of degradation and noise (especially of chirped nature), while requiring only O(N logN) implementation time. Thus, improved performance is achieved at no additional cost. Expressions for the optimal filter functions in fractional domains are derived, and several illustrative examples are given in which significant reduction of the error (by a factor of 50) is obtained.

Synthesis of mutual intensity distributions using the fractional Fourier transform

Our aim in this paper is to obtain the best synthesis of a desired mutual intensity dis~but~on, by filtering in fractional Fourier domains. More specifically, we find the optimal fractional-domain filter that transforms a given (source) mutual intensity distribution into the desired one as closely as possible (in the minimum mean-square error sense). It is observed that, in some cases, closer a...

Repeated fractional Fourier domain filtering is equivalent to repeated time and frequency domain filtering

Any system consisting of a sequence of multiplicative filters inserted between several fractional Fourier transform stages, is equivalent to a system composed of an appropriately chosen sequence of multiplicative filters inserted between appropriately scaled ordinary Fourier transform stages. Thus every operation that can be accomplished by repeated filtering in fractional Fourier domains can a...

Repeated filtering in consecutive fractional Fourier domains and its application to signal restoration

Filtering in a single time domain or in a single frequency domain has recently been generalized to filtering in a single fractional Fourier domain. In this correspondence, we further generalize this to repeated filtering in consecutive fractional Fourier domains and discuss its applications to signal restoration through an illustrative example.

Convolution, filtering, and multiplexing in fractional Fourier domains and their relation to chirp and wavelet transforms

A concise introduction to the concept of fractional Fourier transforms is followed by a discussion of their relation to chirp and wavelet transforms. The notion of fractional Fourier domains is developed in conjunction with the Wigner distribution of a signal. Convolution, filtering, and multiplexing of signals in fractional domains are discussed, revealing that under certain conditions one can...

Generalized Parseval’s Theorem on Fractional Fourier Transform for Discrete Signals and Filtering of LFM Signals

This paper investigates the generalized Parseval’s theorem of fractional Fourier transform (FRFT) for concentrated data. Also, in the framework of multiple FRFT domains, Parseval’s theorem reduces to an inequality with lower and upper bounds associated with FRFT parameters, named as generalized Parseval’s theorem by us. These results theoretically provide potential valuable applications in filt...
